For people from the rainbow community, it can be difficult to find mental health care that truly connects with their experiences. Many lhbtqi+ people have had negative experiences, both in their personal lives and within mental health care. These experiences can affect self-image, relationships, intimacy, and the ability to shape your life according to your own values. At Regenboogpraktijk, we offer lhbtqi+-sensitive psychotherapy in which inclusivity, respect, and professional expertise are central. In a warm, non-judgmental environment, there is space for your story and your identity. We have extensive knowledge of the issues that may arise within the lhbtqi+ community and tailor our support to what you need to move forward.

Within the lhbtqi+ community, there are groups that are particularly vulnerable to low mood or feelings of life fatigue, including trans people. Experiences with transphobia, barriers within health care, and impactful moments during self-discovery and coming out can accumulate and have a lasting effect. This influence may remain, even after gender-affirming steps. We work in a gender-sensitive way and with attention to these experiences, creating space for you to explore what you need to shape your life and gender expression in a way that fits you.

During the development of your sexuality, you may have become inhibited due to shame, fear, or earlier rejection. This can show itself in difficulties with intimacy, closeness, or vulnerability with others. Sometimes patterns arise in which sex or substance use is used to regulate emotions, while providing diminishing relief over time. For others, fetish, BDSM, or non-committal sex can be supportive and liberating ways to experience autonomy, pleasure, and expression. Sex, kink, and substance use are not inherently problematic and can even be healing. Still, some people find themselves getting stuck. We offer an open, sexually sensitive, and non-judgmental space to explore together what works for you and where you may feel stuck.
